Dan McDermott, President of Entertainment at AMC Studios has recently said that the network will always be open to the prospect of more spin-off shows set in the universe of Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. According to McDermott, there are more stories to be told from the universe.
Breaking Bad premiered back in 2008, after which it became a sleeper hit for AMC network. Today, it is widely regarded as the greatest television series of all time along with the network’s biggest success.
After Breaking Bad ended in 2013, AMC network came up with a spin-off prequel series, Better Call Saul focusing on Walter White’s attorney Saul Goodman (Bob Odenkirk). The series is now in its sixth and final season.
In 2019, a spin-off movie was also made, titled El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie, which revolved around the story of Jesse Pinkman, following the events after the series finale of Breaking Bad.
In an interview with Variety, Dan McDermott said that AMC will always be open to the idea of more spin-offs in the Breaking Bad universe, after Better Call Saul ends. Check out his entire statement below:
I can tell you that if I could do anything to encourage Vince and Peter to continue on in this universe, I would do it… I think you’d have to ask them, but the door is always open and I long for the day my phone rings and Vince, Peter or our friends at Sony call to say, ‘Hey, I think we have another show set in this universe.
Dan McDermott
Though McDermott said as of now there are no further spin-offs on the cards, he stated that AMC will always be open to producing more content in the Breaking Bad universe if the makers approach them with an idea.
Walter White and Jesse Pinkman are both all set to return to BCS before the series finale , so their stories also have potential. Though going by the Breaking Bad series finale, where Walt most probably died, a straight sequel may be difficult.
Speaking of Jesse, he gave up his life of crime to lead a new, secluded life in Alaska in the end of the movie El Camino. So, new spin-offs could focus on other major or minor characters or even come up with some sort of fresh story in the same universe.
You can watch Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul on Netflix.
