Amber Heard Opens Up with Details of Alleged Abuse by Johnny Depp

During her testimony at court, actress Amber Head opened up in detail about her alleged sexual assault and abuse by ex-husband Johnny Depp. The couple have been involved in an on-going legal battle since Heard filed a divorce accusing Depp of alleged sexual harassment and domestic abuse in 2016.

The former couple first met in 2011 on the sets of The Rum Diary and got married in 2015. In 2018, Heard wrote an editorial for The Washington Post where she described in detail the alleged domestic abuse she faced in the hands of Depp, calling herself a ‘public figure who represented domestic abuse’.

A British tabloid, The Sun also called Depp a ‘wife beater’, over which the actor filed a libel case against them, although he lost.

Though Amber Heard never mentioned Johnny Depp by name, the allegations majorly damaged his reputation. Johnny Depp was dropped from the popular Pirates of the Caribbean franchise as well as the Fantastic Beasts series following Heard’s allegations against him.

Depp has largely claimed his former wife’s accusations to be false and also filed a $50 million defamation suit against the actress, which is the issue in concern in the current ongoing trial the two are involved in.

Heard has now gone on record to reveal explicit details about the alleged domestic abuse and sexual harassment by Depp. In context of Heard laughing at Depp’s ‘Wino Forever’ tattoo, she said,

I will never forget it, it changed my life. I laughed, I thought he was joking and he slapped me across the face. I laughed, because I didn’t know what else to do. You think it’s funny, bitch? He slapped me again, it was clear it wasn’t a joke. I didn’t move or freak out ..I just stared at him. And he slaps me one more time, hard. I’m all of a sudden realizing that the worst thing that could happen to me happened.

According to Amber Heard, this was when Depp first hit her. Further, Heard elaborated on another incident of sexual assault that happened in 2013. Here’s an excerpt from her testimony:

He’s grabbing my breast, he’s touching my thighs, he rips my underwear off and proceeds to do a cavity search… he shoves his fingers inside me. I just stood there looking at the light… I didn’t say stop or anything.

Until this week, the court was hearing Depp’s side of the story as per the custom of the plaintiff presenting witnesses first. In the actor’s version, which spanned over four days in court, Depp claimed that she was never violent with Heard and further claimed to himself be a victim of sexual assault and violence.

However, now Heard has opened up about her side of the story and also supported her claims with witnesses, including Dr Dawn Hughes, clinical and forensic psychologist who further elaborated on the physical and mental abuse faced by Heard.
