All You Need to Know About Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Remake- Official News

Ubisoft has released 13 main games of Assassin’s Creed in the past 16 years. There were a lot of ups and downs during that period. It did help bolster the reputation of AC games as some of the best free-world story-mode RPGs.

There were whispers along the vine around last year that Ubisoft was working on a project named Obsidian. It was also rumored that many among the developers of the AC game Skull and Bones have been working on it together.

1. Is Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag being remade?

Ubisoft is remaking the title Black Flag under the code name ‘Obsidian’. This news was confirmed by the CEO Yves Guillemot of Ubisoft in an interview in June 2024. The work began around September 2023.

It was wild all around Reddit last year with the digi-sleuths getting handsy with the information they snooped on- that there is an ongoing project, ‘Obsidian’, that may just be the remake of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag after the 10-year anniversary.

It has been found that most of the developers who had worked on Skull and Bones (Ubisoft Singapore) have changed their LinkedIn status to ‘working on an unnamed Ubisoft project’.

I believe that after the shipwreck Skull and Bones was, there is definitely a need to salvage and maybe repurpose the assets towards doing something better.

2. What are the current projects at Ubisoft?

According to reliable sources, the following are the ongoing projects at Ubisoft-

  • Assassin’s Creed Shadows or Red (set in Japan, the first of the Infinity platform)
  • Codename Invictus (a multiplayer game)
  • Codename Hexe (described as the “darkest Assassin’s Creed game ever”)
  • Codename Obsidian (Black Flag remake)
  • Codename Nebula (set in India, Aztec Empire, and the Mediterranean)
  • Codename Infinity (a multi-verse type connected story setting)
  • Codename Raid (free-to-play four-player PvE co-op)
  • Codename Echoes (another multiplayer game)
  • Codename Jade (set in 215 BC China- focus on controls and build your own assassin from scratch option)
  • Another game is being remade (unknown as of now)

Assassin’s Creed Shadows is all set to be released on 15 November 2024 on Xbox Series X/S and PS5. The second remake is in the dark for now. The fans hope it is one of the earlier games, as they cannot be played on the new PlayStations, unlike other titles.

Until Ubisoft announces it officially, we cannot know the details about this one. But from what we know, Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag is indeed in the reworks by Ubisoft. Specifics will be released later in 2024.

We do know that although there are many new titles in the works. But the Black Flag remake and the second, more clandestine work are reportedly going to hit the shelves by the end of this decade.

Ubisoft hasn’t publicly given much information about Infinity but Hexe is supposed to revolutionize and be very attractive to the players, old and new; according to the CEO.

Invictus will reportedly launch by 2025, in the early quarter, followed by Hexe in 2026. We have to wait for specifics to be announced to be sure.

3. About Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag

The sixth instalment of the Assassin’s Creed series and a classy sequel to Assassin’s Creed III, Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag explores the narrative of Captain Edward Kenway, the grandfather of Ratonhnhaké:ton and an ancestor of Desmond Miles. It’s set during the Golden Age of Piracy in the Caribbean sea, with most of the story unravelling in Havana, Nassau and Kingston.

It was developed and published by Ubisoft. Furthermore, it’s a crucial entry of the franchise as it set the benchmark for top-notch graphics for the remaining Assassin Creed games to follow.
