All Quentin Tarantino Movies Ranked from Best to Worst

Quentin Tarantino is perhaps one of the most admired and distinctive filmmakers of today’s generation. Although his breakthrough films such as Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction were released way back in the 90s, he’s still very much relevant today, mainly among millennials.

If you’re someone who’s just discovered Tarantino’s work and wants to watch all his movies, you’ve arrived at the perfect place. Here’s a list of all the films he’s directed, ranked from best to worst. Let’s dive in.

9. Death Proof

Death Proof is by far my least favorite film by Tarantino. While the premise surrounding a stuntman and a stuntwoman is pretty interesting, the narrative and screenplay lack the conviction to pull it off.

However, it is based on a true story where one of the protagonists, Zoe Bell, plays herself, who is a stuntwoman in real life. In fact, the story is based on her own experiences and stories.

8. The Hateful Eight

The Hateful Eight is a slow-burn whodunnit starring Samuel L. Jackson and takes place in the post-civil-war era in America. Set against a snowy, chilly night, the movie truly gets you engrossed and keeps you on your toes.

Unfortunately, the thing that makes it so good is also what makes it mundane. The slow pace and the uneventful series of incidents are there to deceive you. But by the time you realize that and get the payoff, it gets a little mundane. Nevertheless, this one definitely makes the cut when it comes to a good one-room-set movie.

7. Jackie Brown

Well, straight off the bat, let me tell you that Jackie Brown is often considered the best movie by Tarantino. The immersive experience, despite the lack of violence compared to his other films, is hailed as one of the biggest reasons for that.

However, at the end of the day, it isn’t much more than a crime thriller. While the concept would have been new when the film came out, it has become a borderline cliche in today’s era. But, you sure should watch the movie for the incredible performances and the gripping screenplay.

6. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is perhaps the most experimental film of the lot. When the first news about the movie hit the internet, it was called “a film about the Manson murders.” However, when you watch the film, you’ll realize how wrong the speculation was.

The true beauty of this film resides in its depiction of Hollywood. The way it takes a dig at that era while also paying homage to it is fascinating. In fact, the more you try to dig deeper into the film’s premise and narrative, the more metaphors you’ll find.

5. Django Unchained

Django Unchained is essentially a revenge story set during the era of slavery in America. While the film has some good moments, overall, it is pretty mundane. While the action, the blood, and the graphic scenes are almost voyeuristic, which I’m grateful for, the story in itself lacks a punch.

4. Kill Bill Volumes 1 & 2

Like many others, I was introduced to Tarantino with this film, which is why it’s so high up on my list. While it is yet another revenge saga by the director, it is worlds apart from the previous film.

Starring Uma Thurman, every frame in this film is a genuine work of art. The background scores, the fight sequences, and the sheer brilliance in the storytelling give me goosebumps even now.

3. Inglourious Basterds

Inglourious Basterds is set during the Nazi era, and the story follows a mission to kill Adolf Hitler. However, like every Tarantino movie, the narrative is so layered and innovative that you’d at times forget the main plotline and just enjoy the scene unfolding before you.

Also, I cannot move on to the next film without mentioning Christoph Waltz. You’ll be blown away by his sheer presence in a scene, if nothing else. Every twitch of his eyebrow has meaning, and the actor just made the film so much better than what it would be without him.

2. Reservoir Dogs

Reservoir Dogs is perhaps one of the best heist movies you’ll ever see. If you’ve just read the word heist and are already imagining the film’s vibe, you’re most likely getting it all wrong.

Tarantino has a knack for taking the most common themes and turning them into something unpredictable and extraordinary. Reservoir Dogs is perhaps the best example of that.

1. Pulp Fiction

Pulp Fiction is the best Tarantino film and is a must-watch for every fan. The movie crosses all boundaries and breaks all rules of genres, themes, storywriting, and gives us something truly memorable.

Starring Samuel Jackson, John Travolta, Uma Thurman, and Bruce Willis, the film is a true masterpiece. In fact, even if I tried, I couldn’t tell you the film’s premise. Imagine going into a movie and thinking this is the plot, and then having all of that thrown out of the window as the film unravels. That’s essentially what Pulp Fiction is. The best way to experience it is to go without any expectations and just watch the events unfold before you.
