Final Fantasy VII Remake Trilogy will not cut any locations from the original

A lot of things can go wrong when making a remake of a classic. Fortunately, this didn’t happen with the Final Fantasy VII remake.

The original PlayStation 1 version of the game had 30+ hours of gameplay, and hence developers understood that just one game wouldn’t cover the entire story.

After the success of the first part of the Final Fantasy VII remake, Square Enix announced that there would be two more parts of the remake.

The remake’s second part is called Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. Fans were initially worried that the game would cut some original content because of the long gameplay time. Thankfully, this won’t happen according to producer Yoshinori Kitase and co-director Tetsuya Nomura.

Japanese media (such as Famitsu) conducted interviews with producer Yoshinori Kitase and co-director Tetsuya Nomura. The highlights of the interview were provided by Twitter user @xenosaga7.

It appears that any location in the PlayStation original will be in the remake as well, even if it appears in a different order or the context around it changes. They even go as far as to say that nothing will be shortened, which seems surprising given how much of the story is left to tell.

Initially, Square Enix wanted the remake to be a duology however that idea had to be scrapped as two games just won’t fit the entire content. The name of the third game is still unknown, although its subtitle will definitely start with an R.

Square Enix even considered potentially remastering other games in the Final Fantasy VII series, such as 2006’s Dirge of Cerberus or 2004’s Before Crisis, but there are no current plans to go ahead with either project.

However, the game that is getting a remaster is Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion, though Tetsuya Nomura confirmed there wouldn’t be any story changes based on Final Fantasy VII Remake.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will be launching around next Christmas. The disappointing news is that it will be a PS5 exclusive. This is primarily due to the more extensive and detailed worlds in the second part of the remake that will require next-gen hardware.

With Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion arriving this winter and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth as well as Final Fantasy XVI arriving next year, things are looking good for fans of the Final Fantasy series.
