All Might’s Original Form and Quirk

My Hero Academia has churned out hero after hero, each with specific quirks and personalities. However, the number one position (for me, at least) will always belong to the symbol of peace – All Might.

Since the very beginning, he has impressed the Boku fandom with his charisma and strength. Helping people, saving the world, and teaching students how to be better heroes, All Might is the perfect all-rounder.

However, since his fight against All For One, he’s far away from his prime, and with his previous injuries acting up, he has lost the facade he’s been upholding for a long time.

From a sturdy, muscular hero who was the figure of hope, All Might has transformed into a skinny man with dark circles under his eyes that make us pity him.

Yagi Toshinori (hero name: All Might) didn’t have an original quirk as he was born quirkless, just like My Hero Academa’s protagonist Deku. All Might received the quirk “One For All” from his instructor, which made him stronger and helped him become the hero we all know.

I know you want more answers, and I have them! Let’s take a look.

1. How does All Might transform?

At one point in the series, All Might be mentioned that he gains his muscular form because he’s flexing his muscles just like guys at the pool do.

Whether this was for gag purposes or not, this is the only explanation given to us regarding his transformation. However, there is a theory that he gained this form due to his Quirk, One for All.

After his fight and transference of power to Deku, All Might have lost all of his power. However, he can still transform, albeit only for a short time.

Despite losing his Quirk, All Might can only return to his buffed-up state to give hope to civilians because of the remnants of One for All running through his body.

Furthermore, since his body had once been muscular, he can return to that state briefly by flexing them for a bit.

2. What is All Might’s original form?

All Might’s original form is a direct contrast to his superhero form because compared to his commonly seen muscular and well-defined physique, All Might look drastically skinnier and angular.

The loss of the extreme muscle mass that occurs when All Might reverts to its original form gives him the illusion of having slightly longer limbs than the usual person.

All Might’s abnormally gaunt figure is due to the damage his body sustains from ‘All For One.’ He’s said to have undergone multiple surgeries to reduce the effects of his injuries.

All Might’s original form is his skinny appearance, i.e., the one he had before acquiring One for All. After gaining that Quirk, he trained hard to build up his muscles and body to hold and control all 100 percent of it.

Because this transformation resulted from training, this can also be considered his original form.

3. Was he always skinny?

This is where some fan headcanon comes into play. The story does hint that All Might’s skinny form is his “constant form,” but I think that’s not true. If the quirk had that effect, we would’ve also seen that in other users.

Yagi Toshinori was originally skinny but worked hard and bulked up with those muscles before receiving the One For All quirk and becoming All Might. This can be proven by looking at Deku’s transformation from his original skinny body to his current sculpted physique.

However, his battle with All for One caused his stomach to collapse and his body to shrink over time.

Since All Might became muscular when One for All flooded his muscle fibers, his body returned to what it was, aka the thin state, after getting wounded by All for One and giving Deku his Quirk.

4. Can Eri Heal or Restore All Might?

Eri’s Quirk is Rewind. Shota Aizawa suggested that her Quirk can rewind the bodies of those who have lost their Quirks and restore them. Many series fans believe All Might could be restored to his former power if Eri trains hard to refine her Quirk.

Eri cannot heal or restore All Might’s quirk, as he was born quirkless. His secondary quirk, One For All, was transferred to him, which he further passed onto Deku – it didn’t belong to him, so it can’t be restored. Due to this, there’s only one way for him to gain it back if Deku wills it.

Furthermore, All Might’s story has already ended. My Hero Academia is about Deku’s reach to the top, and restoring All Might will conflict with this goal.
