1. How to Obtain Ashes of War in Shadow of The Erdtree

In the Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree expansion, explore the Realm of Shadow to discover new Ashes of War exclusive to this domain. These powerful abilities will prove invaluable in battles against the expansion’s new bosses.

Acquiring Ashes of War in Shadow of the Erdtree DLC follows a familiar pattern like the main game: defeat bosses, exchange remembrances, hunt Scarab Beetles, and scavenge designated areas for loot.

Once in your possession, assign these powerful abilities at any Site of Grace, but be mindful that each Ash is specifically designed for a particular weapon.

By applying Ashes of War to your weapons and armaments, you’ll unlock new skills and affinities, bolstering your arsenal and preparing you for the trials that lie ahead. Weapon compatibility will be clearly indicated in the item descriptions, but I’ll be mentioning it nonetheless in the list below.

For each Ash of War, you’ll find its name, location, abilities, and weapon compatibility, making it easier to locate them and harness their power.

1. Ashes of War in Gravesite Plain

An additional strike may be performed with an additional input.	Swords, Axes, and Hammers	Starting from the Three-Path Cross Site of Grace, keep to the left-hand wall and proceed northward, tracing the path until you stumble upon a secluded camp.
Ash of War: Blind Spot	Leap into close quarters to take advantage of the enemy’s blind spot and gore them from the side. Inputs determine which side you strike from. This attack slips below the opponent’s guard.	Backhand Blades	Find the Backhand Blades, already adorned with the Ash of War, lying next to a coffin in the area inhabited by Inquisitor enemies in Gravesite Plain, just a short distance from the first Site of Grace.
Ash of War: Overhead Stance	A skill that starts with the blade held high in a ready stance. Execute a normal attack from this stance to step forward and slash downwards, or a strong attack to deliver a series of downward slashes. Ash of War: Shriek of Sorrow	A skill that starts with the blade held high in a ready stance. Execute a normal attack from this stance to step forward and slash downwards or a strong attack to deliver a series of downward slashes.	All Melee Armaments	In the heart of the Plaza, seek out the grand tree at its center, and behind its sturdy trunk, you’ll find the ash of war in the same area where Fire Knight Queelagn emerges to challenge you.
Ash of War: Wing Stance	Skill utilized by the downtrodden. Scream, causing nearby enemies to flinch while also recalling deep-seated resentment, boosting attack power based on the amount of HP remaining. The lower the HP, the greater the effect	Light Greatswords	From the Castle Lord’s Chamber Site of Grace, exit and jump off the edge, then follow the cliffside route to the tower. Climb two ladders to reach the top and open the chest.
Ash of War: Igon’s Drake Hunt	Skill of Igon, drake warrior. Ready the bow before unleashing a twisted shot with a great bellow that considerably enhances its power.	Greatbows	Defeat Igon in eastern Gravesite Plain to get the Ash of War on his Greatbow, or summon him, defeat Bayle, and collect the Ash of War and Igon’s set from his body near the Foot of the Jagged Peak.

Rise into the air with a series of spinning kicks before crashing down with one final strike. Imbues kicking attacks with energy, increasing their range.	Hand-to-Hand Arts	Find this Ash of War situated beside a column, on the edge of a ledge, and close to a cascading waterfall.
Ash of War: The Poison Flower Blooms Twice	Conjures stingers of scarlet rot from below to stab the enemy. Landing a follow-up attack on a foe already inflicted with poison or rot deals massive damage in one fell swoop.	All Melee Armaments	From the Shadowpothead’s location, head north and cross the river. Turn left to find a Teardrop Scarab and defeat it to acquire the Ash of War.

Ash of War: Palm Blast	Skill of the spiritual seekers known as the Dryleaf Sect. Imbues hand with energy before using a palm strike to unleash an explosive blast. The already formidable power and impact can be bolstered by charging the attack.	Hand-to-Hand Arts	Trigger a battle with the DryLeaf Dane Monk at the Moorth Ruins Site of Grace by using the “May The Best Win” emote. Win the fight to claim the Ash of War.
Ash of War: Carian Sovereignty	Skill passed down the Carian royal family. Transform the blade into a magical greatsword and bring it down. Additional input follows up with a horizontal sweep. Charge either attack to enhance potency.	All swords except for Colossal swords	In a firefly-filled cave southwest of the Cathedral of Manus Metyr, look up to find a Teardrop Scarab on the ceiling. Eliminate the scarab to claim the Ash of War.
Ash of War: Piercing Throw	Throw armament with a powerful spin, causing it to bore through foes. When using this skill, the armament can be thrown further than normal and also pierce through enemies.	Throwing Blades	Near a crumbled column, southeast of the Giant Crayfish and south of the Messmer soldier encampment, you’ll find a group of Demi-Humans accompanied by a Teardrop Scarab. Defeat the scarab to acquire this Ash of War.
Ash of War: Raging Beast	Step with the swiftness of a beast, leap high and slash foe from above. The initial step can be taken forward, backward, left, or right. A strong attack allows for a follow-up attack.	Beast Claws	From the Bridge Leading to the Village Site of Grace, head north along the path until you reach the treeline. Then, scan the eastern area for a teleporting Teardrop Scarab, which will be carrying the Ash of War.
Ash of War: Rolling Sparks	Scatter perfumed powder before you, triggering rolling explosions of deadly sparks. The properties of the sparks are determined by the perfume bottle used.	Perfume bottles	In the camp southeast of Shadow Keep, where three perfumers reside, a Teardrop Scarab can be found flying high above, drifting towards the central camp area. Defeat the scarab to claim the Ash.
Ash of War: Scattershot Throw	Employ smithing arts to conjure multiple copies of the armament in both hands and throw them all at once. Follow up with an additional input to throw again.	Throwing Blades	South of the bridge, near the entrance to Taylew’s Ruined Forge, a Teardrop Scarab is suspended high on a pillar, surrounded by hostile mobs below. Take out the scarab to claim the Ash of War.
Ash of War: Shield Strike	A skill that uses the shield to attack. Repeated inputs allow for up to three follow-up attacks.	Shields	Found on Dueling Shield and Carian Thrusting Shield.
Ash of War: Swift Slash	A skill passed down amongst hornsent swordsmen. Take a swift forward step to slice through foes. This sharp strike also fires off a shearing vacuum. It can be charged to increase the skill’s power and the distance of the forward step.	Backhand Blades	Obtained as a reward for siding with Hornsent during his fight with Leda at Shadowkeep.
Ash of War: Wall of Sparks	Scatter perfumed powder in the vicinity, producing intense sparks after a brief delay. It can be charged to increase power and range. The properties of the sparks are determined by the perfume bottle used.	Perfume bottles	From the Storehouse Site of Grace on the first floor of Shadow Keep, take the left lift down. Then, exit to the right and immediately turn left. You’ll find the Ash of War on a corpse seated on the railing.
Ash of War: Aspects of the Crucible: Wings	This skill originates from the lifeforms of the Crucible. Grow a golden pair of wings and take to the air before diving down at the foe, weapon first. A spinning attack is performed when wielding a twinblade.	Thrusting Swords and Thrusting Polearms, except Colossal Weapons	Defeat Black Knight Edreed at the Fort of Reprimand to claim this Ash of War as your reward.

5. Ashes of War in Southern Shores

3. About Elden Ring

Elden Ring is a major title released by FromSoftware in 2022, the developers of Demon’s Souls, Bloodborne, and the Dark Souls franchise. Set in the ‘Lands Between’,  players are on a quest to repair the Elden Ring and become the new Elden Lord.

Shadow of the Erdtree is a full-fledged expansion for Elden Ring added in June 2024. It is a whole new map with new Weapons, Sorceries, Ashes, and Craftables. It is a challenging DLC and as players continue to explore the map, they find surprises and easter eggs left by the developers every day.
