The Chaos Flame from the previous game returns in God of War: Ragnarok to upgrade the Blades of Chaos. But the Chaos Flames are scattered around all the realms. So, if you’re looking for a guide to find them, then you’re at the right place.
There are eight Chaos Flames in God of War Ragnarok, and all of them are scattered around the realms for you to discover. They can be found while exploring, opening various chests, and completing missions. They can be used to upgrade the Blades of Chaos.
1. How to find all the Chaos Flames in God of War: Ragnarok?
The locations of the eight Chaos Flames are as follows:

2. Chaos Flame #1 Location
Progress through the main story of the game and eventually, you’ll face a Dreki during the story mission, ‘The Quest for Tyr’. Complete this Dreki boss fight, and upon killing it, it will drop a Chaos Flame for you to pick up.
In case you miss it, this item is placed in the blue chest at the blacksmith.
3. Chaos Flame #2 Location
The next Chaos Flame comes much later in the story, so keep progressing. After you go to Vanaheim with Freya, you’ll have to fight a Forest Ancient during the quest, ‘The Reckoning’. Defeat the Forest Ancient, and it will drop the Chaos Flame for you to pick up.
4. Chaos Flame #3 Location
In the main story quest, ‘The World of Fate’, you and Freya will go through Midgard and will have to fight a Frost Phantom boss. Kill the Frost Phantom, and the Chaos Flame will be yours.
5. Chaos Flame #4 Location
In the main story quest, ‘Creatures of Prophecy’, after you come back from Freyr’s camp in Vanaheim, you’ll have to face two Dreki’s. Defeat both of the Dreki’s, and you’ll find the Chaos Flame.
6. Chaos Flame #5 Location
During the main story quest, ‘The Summoning’, you’ll have to talk to Surtr. But before you can talk to him, you’ll be greeted by a Soul Eater who will try to kill you. Defeat the Soul Eater and the other enemies in order to obtain the Chaos Flame.
7. Chaos Flame #6 Location
Muspeheilm is one of the 9 realms in God of War: Ragnarok. It unlocks during the main storyline mission of the game.
There are 15 Muspelheim Trials in the game, which are a type of challenge. However, you only need to complete 6 of them to get the sixth Chaos Flame.
8. Chaos Flame #7 Location
Vanheim has a couple of Berserker Gravestones, finding and breaking these bring forth a mighty enemy. Defeating these enemies rewards players with certain items.
Finding the Berserker Gravestone in The Sinkholes region of Vanheim and defeating ‘Haklangr The Bearded’ will reward you with the eighth Chaos Flames.
9. Chaos Flame #8 Location
To find the last Chaos Flame, you need to complete all Draugr Holes challenges. There are six of these holes:
- The Watchtower located in Svartalfheim
- The Applecore located in Svartalfheim
- The Barrens located in Alfheim
- Lake of Nine located in Midgard
- The Abandoned Village located in Vanaheim
- The Plains located in Vanaheim
Completing each of these challenges will reward you with a Chaos Spark. When you combine all the Chaos Sparks it gives you a Chaos Flame.
