While you’re flying through the mighty skies in Hogwarts Legacy, you may notice some balloons floating about. As aesthetic as they look, do they have any purpose or are they simply part of the game’s decor?
Well, these balloons are part of a minor side quest that rewards you with broom collectibles. They’re not all that important to the game, so it’s not mandatory to attempt the quest — but it can be quite fun!

How to complete the balloon quest in Hogwarts Legacy?
Players can easily break the balloons by riding straight into them while flying on their brooms. They have to pop all five balloons in any given area for that cluster to be completed.
This is a relatively easy quest but you have to be flying on my broomstick if you want to attempt it. Besides that, all you have to do is fly straight into the balloons and they will burst. Once you pop all five balloons, that cluster will be considered completed and you will see the achievements in your tab.

All Balloon Locations
There are 32 balloon clusters in total which are scattered all over the map. Since they’re not all that easy to spot, I’ve made a pin-pointed list of the locations, so you can find them easily without wasting any time!
1. South Hogwarts Region | 5 Balloon Clusters
- Inside the Quidditch field.
- South of Hogwarts Castle, between Hogwarts Ground and Lower Hogsfield.
- Under the railroad bridge near Aranshire.
- Above the railroad bridge near Hogsmeade Station.
- South of Aranshire.
2. Hogsmeade Valley | 2 Balloon Cluster
- Near the Upper Hogsfield Floo Flame.
- Near the East North Ford Bog Floo Flame.
3. North Hogwarts Region | 1 Balloon Cluster
- At the open field, to the north of the Mooncalf Den Floo Flame.
4. North Ford Bog | 1 Balloon Cluster
- Near the Pitt-Upon-Ford Floo Flame.
5. Hogwarts Valley | 7 Balloon Clusters
- Go to West Hogwarts Valley Floo Flame, the balloons will be at the northwest of the mountains.
- Near the abandoned tower East of Keenbridge.
- East of Brocburrow.
- At the railroad tracks Southwest of Brocburrow.
- At the end of the railroad tracks in Mine’s Eye.
- Near the mountains, west of Keenbridge.
- Southwest of the Central Hogwarts Valley Floo Flame
6. Feldcroft Region | 6 Balloon Clusters
- Near the gorge near Irondale.
- At the south of the Feldcroft Catacombs, near the cliffs.
- Near the South Feldcroft Floo Flame.
- At the west of North Feldcroft Road, between the cliff and a small islet.
- At west of the North Feldcroft Floo Flame, near a bandit camp.
- Near the cliff towards the south of Feldcroft.
7. Poidsear Coast | 4 Balloon Clusters
- Go to the Tomb of Treachery Floo Flame. Find the balloons to the south of the waterfall.
- Above the river leading towards Marunweem Lake.
- Under a bridge near the South Poidsear Coast Floo Flame.
- Near the river south of Poidsear Castle.
8. Marunweem Lake | 1 Balloon Cluster
- East of the Marunweem Lake Floo Flame.
9. Manor Cape | 2 Balloon Clusters
- Above the West Manor Cape Floo Flame.
- South of West Manor Cape, near a Hippogriff Den.
10. Cragcroftshire | 2 Balloon Clusters
- Near the gorge with a bridge connecting Cragcroftshire and Clagmar Coast.
- Above Cragcroft.
11. Clagmar Coast | 1 Balloon Cluster
- West of the South Clagmar Coast Floo Flame.
What is the reward for bursting the balloons?
Players are rewarded with broom upgrades for bursting balloons in Hogwarts Legacy. Brooms are upgraded when players complete the milestones of bursting 2 balloon clusters, 5 balloon clusters, 10 balloon clusters, and 15 balloon clusters.
When you complete two balloon clusters, you will acquire the Night Dancer Broom, Lickety Swift Broom for 5 clusters, Wildfire Broom for the 10 clusters, and Bright Spark Broom for 15 clusters.
So yes, balloons are an extremely minor side quest in Hogwarts Legacy, and it is not mandatory to burst them as they will not affect the narrative or gameplay in any way. However, if you are interested in completing the game a 100% or simply want a snazzy broom — this is a fun activity you can opt for!
