Alison Brie Reveals Why She is Ready to Move On from GLOW

Alison Brie has revealed why she would rather move on from GLOW than holding out hope for a feature film in the future. The actress played one of the lead roles in the sports drama series on Netflix, which was canceled at the beginning of the pandemic lockdown. Hundreds of fans had requested a feature film after the cancellation, but the possibility for that seems very slim.

Set in the 1980s, GLOW focuses on the world of women’s professional wrestling. Ruth Wilder (Alison Brie), a struggling actress, auditions for the wrestling promotion called the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling.

There she clashes with the director Sam Sylvia (Marc Maron), who had employed her ex-best friend, Debbie Eagan, (Betty Gilpin) with whom she had a falling out. The relationship between Ruth, Debbie, and the lives of the other castmates of GLOW is the center of the show’s story.

In an interview with Metro, Brie revealed that although she was glad to be a part of GLOW, she was ready to move on from it. When asked about the feature film, she said-

“It would be amazing, although mentally, it’s easier to just let it go and appreciate it for what it was. I got so much out of the three series, I feel like I grew as an actor and a person.

And in Betty Gilpin I met my soulmate and best friend and this amazing actor – kind of the most special person, aside from Dave, in my life.

For me, it’s easier to reconcile those things about the Covid cancellation and just kind of release. It’s harder for me if I’m hanging on to feeling like, ‘Maybe we will do a movie in a year,’ than to say goodbye to it.”

GLOW had a very successful three-season run on Netflix from 2017 to 2019. During this time, it garnered critical and popular acclaim and landed a Satellite Award and two Emmys Awards. Netflix had renewed the series for a fourth season but reversed its decision once the pandemic shut down production for all television shows.

Fans were outraged at the sudden cancellation and they rallied for a feature film so that the show would get a proper sendoff.

With this, it seems that fans of GLOW have to say goodbye to the show for now.
