The gamemaster plucked a doozy from the stack: the Joker, just as Arisu (Kento Yamazaki) and his pals believed they were home free and clear.
If we’re being sincere, we knew this was going to happen. It seemed unthinkable that the Joker would not show when the face card was dealt.
So, what happens to the damaged gamers who believed they’d finally made it back to the real world (the optimistic saps)?
Fans will have to wait until season three to find out whether there will be one. Here’s all we know about Alice in Season 3 of Borderland.
Alice in Borderland Season 3 Potential Release date
While there have been speculations of a third season in the works, there has yet to be an official word on whether or not Alice in Borderland has been renewed for another season.
The pandemic did stall the production of season two, contributing to the two-year lag, which means season three may arrive on the streaming service as soon as December 2023.
Alice in Borderland Season 3 cast: Who Will be Coming Back?
Niragi (Dori Sakurada) and Aguni (Shô Aoyagi) were two unexpected guests who we believed had perished in season one, only to reappearance in season two. Despite being severely damaged (Niragi in particular), they survived season two and are expected to return in season three.
Tatta, on the other hand, is a different story. Yutaro Watanabe’s character is unlikely to rise from the dead, given that he was buried halfway through the season.
Arisu and Usagi (Tao Tsuchiya) have survived explosions, stab wounds, and a variety of other life-or-death scrapes to join us for another season and, perhaps, more. We can hardly wait!
Aya Asahina, Nijirô Murakami, and Ayaka Miyoshi’s characters Kuina, Chishiya, and Ann also crossed the finish line. Thus we anticipate the former to repeat their roles.
Newcomer Yuri Tsunematsu was a terrific addition to the cast as Heiya, and since she wasn’t killed off, there’s no reason we shouldn’t see her again.
Alice in Borderland Season 3 Plot: What Will Happen?
Arisu and company will be in for a huge surprise next season. Despite believing they had entered ‘the real world’ in the season finale, the reveal of the joker card shows they are far from it.
All of the candidates may be in a virtual reality world similar to the one where Arisu found himself in the final episode. In that delusion, Arisu was led to believe that he was institutionalized and that these games were a mental construct.
Thankfully, he clawed his way out of that mental trap with the assistance of Usagi, but it’s conceivable they all slid into another when they passed up the chance to become residents of the game.
As a result, a new game has probably begun that none of them are aware of, and they’ll have to escape free. This will be challenging for the squad because they have yet to recall the games or their connections with one another.
As the players progressed to the face cards level, their complexity, intensity, and severity grew, which means the Joker now has the potential to be the cruelest of them all.
If it takes on the features of its name, a succession of dark tricks and manipulations await Arisu’s battered gang as they continue to be puppeteered by the gamemasters.
Speaking of gamemasters, Arisu and the company’s triumph spelled the demise of the previous face-card game masters, who were revealed to be former gamers who became ‘citizens.’
After winning the last face-card game, the players were offered the option of becoming citizens or declining the offer and accepting whatever fate threw at them (their pseudo-reality, as it turned out).
While many people declined the opportunity to stay in the game in less complex circumstances, new characters Banda (Hayato Isomura) and Yaba (Katsuya Maiguma) elected to become residents, which implies they might be the gamemasters for season three.
