The 2021 Rust shooting incident that killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins has cost more than one life – it is costing Alec Baldwin his career.
Alec Baldwin, both actor and producer, was starring alongside Jensen Ackles, Travis Flammel, Brady Noon, and Frances Fisher in the Western film. But in October 2021, the movie came to a sudden halt after an accidental prop misfire resulted in the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.
On the day of the incident, Santa Fe County Sheriff’s office launched an investigation into the accidental killing, and the film was indefinitely suspended. Baldwin has claimed he had not pulled the trigger and shares no blame for Hutchins’ death, but a recent FBI report stating the shot couldn’t have been fired with a trigger pull does not support Baldwin’s statement.
In a recent interview with CNN, the actor disclosed that he lost several opportunities after the incident. Baldwin added that he lost five jobs till now, including an unnamed project dropping him right before he boarded a plane to commence filming.
I got fired from another job yesterday. I was all set to go to a movie and jump on a plane. I’ve been talking with these guys for months, and they told me yesterday we don’t want to do the film with you because of this.
Baldwin is only one of the people of interest in the ongoing investigation run by Santa Fe County. Armorer Hannah Gutierezz-Reed is also under investigation since she was responsible for the safety measures in prop handling.
Baldwin was put under a harsh light when he recently voiced his want of completing the film and moving on, claiming that’s what Hutchins would have wanted. But he only faced a wave of backlash for his statement, and now he’s missing out on other projects too.
Do you think Alec Baldwin is being treated unfairly or is this treatment just? Nevertheless, it is not likely that the film will be continued in the future.
