Maid cafes can give Disneyland a run for their money for being the happiest place on Earth, but such sites always hide a dark reality. Cygames and P.A. Works got inspired by this and started working on the Akiba Maid War anime.
Although the staff hasn’t released a story yet, the teasers and trailer make it pretty obvious that it’s based on the tragic truth behind maid cafes. Akiba Maid War anime’s latest teaser makes this theory even more believable with its eerie vibes.
The teaser has a monologue by Ranko, one of the main characters, going on in the background as it introduces her coworkers in the cafe. Along with this, the video also reveals the anime’s October 6 premiere date.
First, we have Yumechi, the ‘ace maid’ who is the pro at every maid cafe-related work. After Yumechi, we are introduced to the ‘gyaru maid’ Shiipon, who is way too casual and informal with customers but is still popular among them.
Next, we have the cafe’s manager, whose name hasn’t been revealed and who is a troublemaker. Lastly, we have Nagomi and Ranko, who will be the story’s main focus.
Besides introducing these cute maids, the trailer gets distorted in between, suggesting that there’s something fishy going on. Moreover, the cafe’s panda mascot doesn’t help either and instead gives an unsettling and creepy vibe.
The anime’s dark and mysterious vibe is further confirmed with a key visual that features Nagomi with a distraught look and Ranko with a gun.

The story revolves around two women, Nagomi Kazuhira who has come to Tokyo with dreams of becoming a cute main in Akihabara, and Ranko Kazutoshi who is a former maid coming back to the business.
