Yona of the Dawn or Akatsuki no Yona is a fantasy anime television series based on the same name as that of its source manga.
It is an outstanding shoujo anime that focuses on themes of betrayal and vengeance and beautifully portrays them.
Despite being an immediate hit when it aired, which was in October 2014, the anime never got a sequel, and fans are still living in prolonged pain.
In this article, we will discuss the release date, the possibilities of a new season, and many more interesting facets of the show.
1. Release Date of Season 2
As of the last update, FUNimation or Studio Pierrot hasn’t unveiled any news regarding the renewal of the season, and if it doesn’t happen this year, the show might get canceled for sure.
Some factors plays a pivotal role in deciding whether the anime series will get a new season or not, and for Akatsuki no Yona, they aren’t looking good.
2. Will There Be A Second Season?
For now, the chances are slim, but all hope isn’t lost. Three factors play a significant role in this decision – popularity, sales and source material.
The popularity of the anime series has taken a dip and the hopes of the fans are crumbling every passing year. But still, people do believe a second season will happen sooner or later.
The sales have been modest in general, but keeping in mind that it’s a shoujo manga, the sales were quite high in that respect. The latest volume sold 135000+ copies.
There’s enough source material for at least three more seasons, so if one’s ruling out the happening of a second season on that, it’s just not possible.
In all, there are two possibilities, either there will be a second season or the whole show might get a reboot later on.
3. Theory Section
In April 2016, fans of the series received quite a shock when Mizuho Kusanagi, the creator of Akatsuki no Yona announced on Twitter that she had been severely affected by the earthquakes and she suffered a significant setback as an artist as well as a human.
This was one of the reasons why the second season didn’t make its way to the screens later that year. But a long time has passed since then, and she’s currently well and fine.
