In episode 8 of Aharen is Indecipherable we see that the “esteem” was too much for Tobaru sensei. That woman has Raido-like imagination.

Delinquent Raido is good, but school idol Raido was the best. Sensei Tobaru should be careful with those scenarios, she can’t afford to lose any more blood. She was just lying in bed covered in all that blood, lol.

The festival looked fun and the food looked delicious. All the girls looked adorable in their yukatas too! The last few moments when Raido found Aharen was really enjoyable.

It was adorable how he hugged her and then let her sit on his shoulders. It was nice to see her blush a little when she took his hand at the end. Perhaps things are moving from platonic to romantic? So sweet!

Episode 9 Speculations

Aharen’s funny moments with Raido will be featured in the upcoming episode. I had so much fun watching episode 8 and I expect the anime keeps the bar high in the upcoming episodes as well.

With that saying, we saw, that Aharen had a beautiful outfit on for the festival. Raido seemed quite impressed by it.

We can’t wait to see more heartwarming moments in upcoming episodes.

Episode 8 Recap

I find it funny. After complaining that Aharen-san’s ensemble cast wasn’t pulling their weight, the show decides to not only bring back two of its best secondary characters but let one basically become its star.

In the years that have passed since Momo-chan-sensei was introduced, she hasn’t made a big impression, and she hasn’t really been seen, but now she returns with a powerful performance.

I retract what I said at the beginning of these reviews about Raido being the biggest doofus in this series. She’s likely to hospitalize herself from terminal levels of Squee if she’s given this title to this ship-crazy teacher.

It’s a bit unnerving to see an adult teacher shooting projectiles into the nosebleeds of her students…hardly even flirting, much less interacting at all. Like much of the comedy in this show, the delivery is so absurd that you have to put effort into making it feel offensive.

Momo-chan-sensei doesn’t imagine her underage wards doing anything steamy or tawdry, instead, she’s hard-wired for absurd romance anime clichés like tripping on a banana peel into a first kiss, which is too ridiculous to be taken seriously.

In addition, it’s really nice to know Momo-chan-sensei doesn’t discriminate in her fantasies, and assumes Oshiro loves Reina, not Raido – she’d be equally blind in either case.

These delusions have resulted in some of the show’s best sight gags. It’s funny to see these straight-faced goofballs acting, after all these weeks of knowing them as they are, wholly out of character. It’s possible, though, that Momo-chan-sensei’s part of this episode is the funniest because it goes completely unaddressed.

Though she is oblivious to the fact that she and Miyahara-sensei are basically one confession away from dating themselves, she has a Terminal Shipper Brain and constantly imagines cliché anime romance scenarios.

It seems that sometimes the closer you are to something, the harder it is to see. May the blood loss stop Momo-chan-sensei before either of them pops the question.

As we move forward, we’re back in the show’s usual realm, but this time we’re at that most hallowed of anime events: the fireworks festival. Despite their second appearance, Ishikawa and Sato do not stand out, but their presence allows our main duo to exhibit some solid silliness.

There are still some jokes about Raido overestimating himself, but there’s a fun twist in how he’s not competing with Aharen but trying to optimize their festival that is not a date.

The boy just believes in himself and his friends so much, and it’s infectious enough that for a minute, I completely forgot about Reina’s comically poor distance judgment.

For a moment, Raido’s energy was powerful enough to shut out the very idea of this show from my mind. He intends to reclaim the Top Dumbass throne.

In addition to all the gags, we stop briefly to complete the romance half of this Romantic Comedy. As simple as it is, Raido helping Reina see the fireworks clearly for the first time is about as predictable a setup as you can get – but that doesn’t make it any less magical.

There has always been a way for these two main characters to help each other out, and it is this earnest sentiment that makes this episode’s schmaltziness work.

Reina’s hesitation at taking Raido’s hand, realizing for the first time the (lack of) distance between them, is a quiet, yet inspired moment in the episode.

Overall, this has everything great about Aharen-san firing on all cylinders, making it an exemplary episode.

About Aharen-san wa Hakarenai

Aharen-san wa Hakarenai is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Asato Mizu. It began serialization in Shueisha’s Shōnen Jump+ service in January 2017, and has been compiled into eleven tankōbon volumes.

The story follows the “indecipherable” daily life of the short and quiet Reina Aharen and Raidou who sits next to her in class. Aharen is not so good at gauging the distance between people, and Raidou initially sensed some distance between the two of them.

Then one day, when Raidou picked up the eraser that Aharen had dropped, the distance between them suddenly became uncomfortably close.
