While the current anime season has just started with famous series like ‘Jujutsu Kaisen,’ ‘Rent-A-Girlfriend,’ ‘Horimiya,’ and many more, it feels like 2023 is the year for anime since the entire year is loaded with some of the finest anime that could challenge the already popular anime airing right now.
On Saturday, Adult Swim released exciting trailers for three fascinating anime series: ‘Uzumaki,’ ‘Ninja Kamui,’ and ‘FLCL: Grunge.’ While ‘FLCL: Grunge’ is set to premiere on September 9, ‘Ninja Kamui’ and ‘Uzumaki’ release dates have yet to be announced.
Uzumaki
Uzumaki is a Japanese horror manga series written and illustrated by Junji Ito. The 1998-1999 manga follows the inhabitants of a town where strange occurrences related to a spiral shape began occurring one after another.
The road to the release of “Uzumaki” has been defined by delays, beginning with its original goal to premiere on Toonami in 2020, which was subsequently pushed back to 2021 in Japan, and then again to October 2022 before encountering another setback in June 2022.
However, reassuring news came from Jason DeMarco’s Twitter confirmation that “Uzumaki” is set to arrive later this year.
Fans can now look forward to a four-episode mini-series directed by Hiroshi Nagahama at Studio Drive and Studio Akatsuki, with co-production from Production I.G. USA and Adult Swim.
FLCL: Grunge
‘FLCL’ anime series stands out even two decades later through its hyperactive, innuendo-laden, and borderline nonsensical storytelling presented through often abstract visuals, and the fans of the series now can rejoice once again.
‘FLCL: Grunge’ and ‘FLCL: Shoegaze’ are the two latest installments of the popular FLCL anime series. ‘Grunge,’ directed by Hitoshi Takekiyo at MontBlanc Pictures, promises a CGI animation that delves into the lives of three post-graduation teens.
‘Shoegaze,’ directed by Yutaka Uemura at Production I.G. and NUT, is set 10 years after “FLCL Alternative” and revolves around a high school guy and girl.
Ninja Kamui
The trailer for ‘Ninja Kamui’ shows the protagonist, Joe Higan, in action as he battles the enemies responsible for his family’s tragedy.
The dramatic fighting sequences set the tone for the future vengeful adventure. In the video’s later half, director Sunghoo Park discusses the series’ plot line and production process.
Armed with ancient abilities, Joe battles skilled assassins, combat cyborgs, and rival ninjas, all in pursuit of revenge against the clan that shaped his destiny.
This year has so many fantastic anime that deciding what to watch is difficult. Personally, I’m excited about ‘Ninja Kamui’ because of the action and impressive fight sequences but let us know in the comments which anime you’re looking forward to.

Uzumaki is a horror manga series by Junji Itou. It was serialized in the Big Comic Spirits manga 1998-1999. An anime production is scheduled for fall 2022.
The story starts in a small town, Kurouzu-cho. This eerie town gives birth to a spiral curse that makes people paranoid about spirals and gradually leads them to their deaths.
Kirie and Shuichi plan their escape from the town and its curse, but it is tougher than they expected.
About Ninja Kamui
Ninja Kamui is an upcoming original anime series by Adult Swim directed by Sunghoo Park. It follows an ex-ninja Joe Higan who left his violent past behind to settle in rural America with his family.
One unfortunate night, his former organization kills him and his family as a bloody retribution. However, they couldn’t kill Joe who re-emerges as his past self to avenge his loved ones.
