In just a few hours, the two-part season 5 finale of Rick and Morty will drop on Adult Swim. After a brief hiatus last month after its eighth episode, the series is finally returning.
The final two episodes of the season are titled ‘Forgetting Sarick Mortshall’ and ‘Rickmurai Jack.’ Just in time before the finale premiere, the Adult Swim YouTube channel has shared the cold open of its one-hour finale.
The video description for the cold open reads, “Morty cleans up the mess left behind by Rick, but things get out of hand.”
(No, really… it’s not a metaphor.)
When Morty sees that the portal fluid is almost empty, he mixes lime soda with the remaining fluid and then accidentally spills the liquid on the palm of his hand. Which results in a huge portal opening from his palm as things are quite literally getting ‘out of hand.’
To be fair, he was doing it for a good cause, as the scenes before this one show him fixing the mess that Rick causes on his adventures.
Episode 9 title references the film ‘Forgetting Sarah Marshall’, a comedy film in which a man, miserable over his breakup, ends up going on a vacation in the same place where his ex and her new lover are holidaying.
And Episode 10 references ‘Samurai Jack,’ an anime series in which young samurai Jack, who is sent into the future by evil wizard Aku, makes a quest to return to the past and undo the destruction caused by the wizard.
Ahead of the finale, Adult Swim dropped a 14 seconds promo clip that showed Christopher Lloyd and Jaeden Martell as the live-action Rick and Morty.
Rick and Morty will return with its two-part finale to Adult Swim on Sunday, September 5th at 11:00 PM EST.
