Nam Da-reum, wowing fans as a child and teen actor in popular shows, has announced his military enlistment date. The actor shared a letter on his Instagram account, used by his mother and him.
In the post, Nam Da-reum expressed his childhood goals of serving the country. He is only 21 years in Korean age (and 19 in international age), which means he still has seven more years left to enlist; his desire to complete his goals led him to take an early decision.
The actor started the letter by giving fans well-wishes for the Lunar New Year and shared that he will be enlisting in the military on February 8 this year. He also stated that he had been quietly preparing for his role as an active soldier but apologetic to fans.
Nam Da-reum then told fans about his lifelong goals and promised to show them “an improved version” after returning.
Ever since I was young, serving in the military early was one of my goals. Although I wasn’t able to go at the age of 20 (bin Korean age), I think it’s a relief that I’m at least able to go at the age of 21. After I come back, I will try to show you an improved version of myself as an adult and as an actor. Uniques (his fandom name), please take good care of your health. I will return a more mature person. Thank you.

He debuted as a child actor in the classic 2009 K-drama Boys over Flowers, playing Kim Hyun-joong’s younger version.
Since then, he has starred in Pinocchio, cameoed in Guardian: The Lonely and Great God, While You Were Sleeping, Start-Up, and other popular dramas.
Nam Da-reum currently has two upcoming projects – Shin Hyun-been starrer Monstrous (March 2022 release) and Netflix’s webtoon-based The Sound of Magic, playing the younger version of Ji Chang-wook (May 2022).
