A stage play is the most authentic platform in the acting industry. This is where the true acting potential and talent of an actor can be gauged.
Act-Age is a manga based on the harsh life in the acting industry. Kei Yonagi, the female protagonist of the story, is a high school girl who wants to become an actress. It is written by Tatsuya Matsuki and illustrated by Shiro Usazaki.
It is published in the Weekly Shonen Jump magazine by Shueisha. The manga has featured several performances till date.
The official Twitter account of Weekly Shonen Jump posted a scan of an announcement which reveals the commencement of an Act Poll for the fans.
The “Princess Iron Fan” Poll will start from July 3 onwards, and fans will be able to vote for their favorite performance in the manga. A promotional video of the stage play will also be released on the same day.
Princess Iron Fan is a fictional character from Journey to the West. In Act-Age, both Kei and Chiyoko were cast to interpret the character in an original play centered around the character.
The Princess Iron Fan stage play was featured in the Double cast arc, where Kei was paired with Riku while Chiyoko was paired with Araya.
The scan of the issue also contains an illustration of Chiyoko and Yonagi on either side depicting an ongoing rivalry. The decision of who has performed better will now rest on the audience.
Will Kei with her method-acting skills win, or will Chiyoko with her skills that are opposite to that of Chiyoko?
The latest chapter of Act-Age is chapter 117, released by Viz Media on June 21. (Act Age has now been cancelled due to the arrest of the writer on August 8th)
About Act Age
The manga first debuted in Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in the January issue of 2018. The English release is taken care of by Viz Media. They have been publishing the manga digitally and regularly since December 2018.
The protagonist of the story is a high school student by the name of Kei Yonagi. She lives alone with two younger siblings; their mother passed away, and their father left them.
Kei aspires to be a top-class actress someday but finds it difficult to find her break into the acting world. It’s not that she can’t act, but she acts too well. The problem with her acting is that she loses track of reality when she starts acting. She has an extreme talent for method acting.
Most people say that acting of this intensity could lead to self-destructivity, which is why they give while rejecting her at auditions. However, the highly acclaimed director Sumiji Kuroyama notices Kei’s talent and decides to help her get her lucky break.
