In AC Valhalla, you’ll come across a particular quest through Randvi, who’ll inform you that Sigurd wants to talk to you about something. Once you interact with him in the room adjacent to the alliance map, he’ll express his desire to meet his and Eivor’s father.
To do so, he wants to travel all the way to Norway with you. However, once you return to your homeland and finally meet up with your father, things would be much different than what one might expect them to be.
What follows is a hard conversation between Eivor, Sigurd, and their adopted father – it’s pretty saddening to see such a disconnect now exists between our Vikings and what’s left of their family, but it is what it is.
That aside, I know exactly what you’re here for – you’re stuck on one the choice-based dialogues presented throughout this conversation, aren’t you? Well, don’t worry, I’ve got you covered.
In the “Where Legends Are Born” quest, you’d be given three choices first – the best option for the conversation is “The king owns the crown” as it would result in a non-hostile situation between Sigurd and Styrbjorn. However, the outcome still remains the same regardless of what you choose.
You’ve probably guessed with what I’ve said just now that every choice you make here would have drastic effects on how the rest of the conversation plays out, with different cutscenes and dialogues. Don’t worry, we’ll cover all that and help you make the best decision for Eivor.
So, I say – let’s not wait any longer and get right into the meat of it all, shall we?
1. Talking to Styrbjorn – Best Choice and Outcomes
As I’ve mentioned before, to meet up with Eivor and Sigurd’s adoptive father, you need to make your way to Hordafylke – you’d find a teal marker there. You can find him at the location below, in an alehouse.
Once you enter the place, the cutscene will begin. The moment Styrbjorn opens his eyes and lays them on Sigurd, he’ll jump with joy and warmly greet both the siblings, to a rather cold reaction.
Once Sigurd explains the reason for his visit and calls Styrbjorn out, Styrbjorn will claim how his past decisions were a necessity, more than a choice – the most sensible thing to do.
This will lead to the first choice-based dialogue that Eivor receives.
These are the choices presented to Eivor:
- The king owns the crown.
- You stole your son’s future.
- What has become of you?
Essentially, Eivor will get the opportunity to call Styrbjorn out for his past deeds and what has become of him, or they can talk to him in a less-than hostile manner, noting how his decision was an attempt at ensuring the clan’s safety. Let’s discuss these options a little more in-depth to understand what goes down with each of them.
2. What if you agree to Styrbjorn’s decisions?
If you choose the first option, that is, “The king owns the crown,” Eivor will talk about how Styrbjorn did what he thought was the best course of action.
To this, Styrbjorn would show his agreement, only to comment on Sigurd’s absence when he needed him the most.
As this option is arguable the least hostility-inducing one, so I’d recommend going with this one. While, it doesn’t really help the situation between Sigurd, Eivor, and Styrbjorn, it doesn’t make it worse either, making it an optimal choice.
3. What if you call Styrbjorn out for robbing Sigurd’s crown?
Choosing the second option, Eivor will call Styrbjorn out, claiming how his decisions weren’t sensible and he robbed Sigurd’s crown off him.
To this, Styrbjorn will reply angrily, stating how Sigurd was an irresponsible, selfish boy – that he couldn’t trust Sigurd with the crown and instead, gave it to Harald who understood his duty a lot better.
Here, the conversation will take a turn for a whole lot worse, with Sigurd holding Styrbjorn by his throat and Eivor freeing him off it. This will leave Styrbjorn confused as to what changed his son so much.
4. What if you comment on Styrjorn’s current state?
Our last choice entails Eivor mocking Styrbjorn for his lifestyle and how he’s essentially a shell of his former self.
To this, Strybjorn would explain how he’s been working on spreading Harald’s message of unity across the land. Sigurd would make a mocking remark to this, only to receive one in return by his adoptive father.
Once again, things would turn hostile, and Eivor would have to break in between the two (sighs). But, with that, you’re be done with your main chunk of Choice-based dialogues.
5. Where Legends Are Born – what about the extra choice-based dialogues?
Now, Eivor will receive two more choice-based dialogues, both of which are inconsequential, really. In the first one, you can simply part ways with Styrbjorn on a somewhat bitter note, or you can call him out one way or the other, ending the entire conversation on a way worse note.
Next, once Sigurd is about to leave, you can either stop him or let him go.
Both options would end with the Sigurd storming out of the alehouse and Eivor following him behind either way, thus, ending the quest as well.
