Closing the Vault is a main story quest of the Jorvik arc in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, which tasks the players to investigate and figure out the true identity of ‘The Vault’ of the Order of the Ancients. To complete this quest, the players must investigate possible suspects in the Jorvik city who may be The Vault and assassinate them once their identity is revealed.
Audun is ‘The Vault’ in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. He is a senior member of the Order of the Ancients and the founding member of the Red Hand. Accusing and assassinating Audun leads to the successful conclusion of the Closing the Vault quest.
How to get the ‘Closing the Vault’ quest in AC Valhalla?
Closing the Vault quest can be started at the Royal Hall of Jorvik by speaking to Ljufvina after completing both ‘Burning the Firebrand’ and ‘Pricking the Needle’ quests in the Jorvik story arc.
Ljufvina will guide you to the Archives, where you have to investigate some scrolls for clues to the Vault’s identity. Use Odin’s sight and interact with the scrolls on the table.
Exploring the Archives
Look for a single note on a table at the back of the room. This table is right before a red and yellow striped flag hanging on the wall. Interacting with this note will reveal a hidden room inside the Archives.
Break the door of the secret room and enter it to find the poisoned wine that will be served at the festival.
Reaching the Yuletide Festival
After this, follow Ljufvina to the Jorvik Amphitheatre, where the Yuletide festival is taking place. Here she will tell you that the Vaultis one of the council members at the festival and ask you to investigate each one of them.
Use Odin’s sight to find out the people with the text box over their heads and talk to them to start investigating.
Accusing and Revealing the Vault
There are four prime suspects at the Yuletide festival in Jorvik:
- Ricsige
- Faravid
- Audun
- Hjorr
You need to talk to all of them and figure out which one of them is the Vault based on the conversations. Unfortunately, you might find everyone to be a possible traitor even after the investigation. But, Audun’s knowledge about the poisoned wine not being at the festival and his reluctance to drink it forms a strong enough ground to accuse him.
After investigating all the suspects, talk to Ljufvina and accuse Audun of being The Vault. This act will initiate a cutscene. You can assassinate Audun to complete the quest after this cutscene ends.
What if I accuse the wrong person in the Closing the Vault quest?
There are no major impacts on the gameplay and the overarching storyline of the Jorvik arc for accusing the wrong person in the Closing the Vault quest.
No matter who you accuse of being The Vault, the triggered cutscene at the end will be the same, leading Audin to expose himself and allowing you to assassinate him.
Unfortunately, you cannot save the people of Jorvik from consuming the poisoned wine under any circumstance.
The reactions of the wrongly accused person may differ at the end of the quest. They act a little disappointed in Eivor for accusing them. Still, it will not significantly impact the overall storyline and the following quests.
Bugs and Glitches in the Closing the Vault Quest
At this point, it is next to impossible for Assassin’s Creed not to have any glitches or bugs in every other quest. Closing the Vault has a very annoying bug where at a point, you might not be able to interact with Ljufvina, which is extremely necessary to progress with the mission. Tons of players have been frustrated by the same issue, and some have even given up on the entire game.
The user, Daghering, mentioned the same glitch on the Ubisoft player support forum, to which the support staff recently replied with a very unpromising
I’ve just checked, and the issue is still under investigation by the development team. As of now, we don’t have other updates, so want to thank once again for your patience and understanding.
The bug is still not fixed after six months of notifying the development team, and it seems that this issue will persist for even longer. If you face the same bug during your gameplay, try restarting the game.
