Assassin’s Creed: Mirage was released on October 5th. Since its release, it has become the most profitable title by developers Ubisoft and has managed to make the wider Assassin’s Creed fanbase happy.
Reddit user u/SirLagunaLoire has found an easter egg in Assassin’s Creed Mirage that refers to the book Necronomicon, referred to by reputed horror author HP Lovecraft. The book can be found in the southeast ruins on the map of Baghdad in AC Mirage.
Necronomicon, also known as the Book of the Dead, appears in the stories written by horror writer HP Lovecraft, first showing up in 1924’s short story by the name of “The Hound.”
The book’s original title is in Arabic and goes by the name of Kitab al-Azif. The book appears in a list of missing books from the House of Wisdom in its original name in Arabic.
The Lovecraft love story does not end at that. Upon finding the Kitab al-Azif and returning it, Basim received an item that was quite interesting. The article, Monstrous Talisman, is the same shape as a Cthulhu.
The description of the Talisman confirms this. The back story confirms that the item is the figure of an eldritch creature, who happened to be a primordial god. The text says that the story of the animal is present in the Necronomicon by Abdul Alhazred.
Abdul Alhazred is the fictional poet, supposedly the author of the book mentioned by Lovecraft in his books. It must be remembered that in AC: Mirage, talismans are merely cosmetic.
They sit on Basim’s shoulder without affecting the character’s abilities or powers. This makes it a rather exciting side quest with an easter egg that was well thought out.
Players can now experience Assassin’s Creed Mirage as a young Basim who starts as an apprentice under mentor Roshan in the walled city of Baghdad set in the 9th century.
