A Quiet Place Review: A Less Scarier Sequel

A Quiet Place Part II release date is a bit fuzzy ‘cause of the pandemic and the lockdown. However, the much-awaited sequel was finally available for us. A Quiet Place ended on a cliffhanger with the Abbott family figuring out how to kill these unnamed monsters. This sequel picks up right from where it left off.

1. Quick Review

A Quiet Place Part II

Watch A Quiet Place Part II on:

This sequel gives us more insight into the world of monsters but is less scary and underwhelming. Instead, it’s rawer, focuses on mere survival, and hence takes away from the horror aspect.

A Quiet Place Part II isn’t as edgy as its predecessor, and even with the much-loved Cillian Murphy, it lacks the punch.

2. Plot

The film starts with a brief scene of how it all began. Although the monsters’ origin remains unknown, we are shown how the monsters ambushed a baseball game and set off the apocalypse. I know right, sounds less scary already. Well, technically, they ambushed and killed an entire city on that day. So that’s brutal.

With this, we are back to the present, where Emily Blunt’s character kills a monster in their home. Now, the family (at least whatever remains of it… Well, hold on there. I know you all miss John Krasinski, but I just couldn’t help myself.) needs to find a new place since their home is destroyed by the monsters and is no more safe for them.

I. Cast And Characters

The sequel has a brief appearance by John Krasinski, and along with the old cast members, we have Cillian Murphy. Perhaps it’s just me, but Cillian Murphy’s mere presence gives you this ‘broken’ feeling. I guess it’s the blue eyes.

Either way, the performances this time around are as expected, pretty accurate and expressive. However, I feel that Cillian’s character wasn’t explored much. I wish there were more layers to him and maybe the lack of it made his presence underwhelming.

3. Final Thoughts & Grade

Story: B

Acting: A

Direction: A

All in all, this is a fine watch. Though it doesn’t have the same amount of detailing as the previous one, it does shed more light on what this world has to offer. And with a third sequel being teased, I guess, if nothing else, it was a necessary watch to stay ready for the next one. I hope that’s much more gritty and edgy than this one.
