A Quiet Place sequel was a much-awaited film that I was personally was looking forward to, especially after seeing the trailer, which gave a glimpse of the events of day one – when the series of horrific events began. It almost felt like a prequel, and though I knew it wasn’t, I was still excited to find out the origins of these creatures/monsters/aliens(Well, they could be).
So, where did these creatures and monsters come from, and what triggered the events that led to the annihilation of an entire population?
Though the film hasn’t explicitly revealed the origin of these blind sound-sensitive creatures, we know that meteor crashes on various parts of the planet started the chain of events. It is confirmed that meteor crashes happened in Mexico, New York, and New England Town, where the Abbotts live.
The story around the origin and traits of these creatures has been revealed in a subtle manner since there are very few dialogues in the second film and even fewer in the first one. Instead, we come to know about the monsters via newspaper clippings and notes in the den of the Abbott family, the way their homes are designed, and many others.
Let’s start with the first film and try to put some pieces together as we move on to the second film. (I know I’m quite excited about this too!)
1. Hints In A Quiet Place
In A Quiet Place, we come to know two primary things that might be related to the origins of these monsters.
First is a newspaper clipping headline that reads ‘New York City On Lockdown’. Though this is vague, it is safe to assume that the lockdown is trying to curb something or, even worse, trying to protect itself from the outside.
The second major clue makes things a little more clear. Another newspaper clipping talks about a meteor crash in Mexico. This potentially means that the monsters are in fact aliens from another planet and not a work of the government or the people at Area 51.
A few other newspaper clippings talk about meteor crashes in Denver, multiple landing sites, Shanghai death, surprise for global marines, etc., that all point to a source not from our planet but space.
This also means that various countries and regions across the globe have been affected by these events.
2. Hints In A Quiet Place Part II
The sequel offers confirmation of the above facts. In the beginning sequence, we hear a news report which says that ‘something’ has crashed into The Plaza. Considering what we already know, The Plaza could be the one in New York, and that ‘something’ could be a meteorite.
Quite soon, we see an orange ball of fire (again, it must be a meteorite) tear through the sky in New England Town, where the film is set.
3. What Do We Know So Far
So this is all we know through the two films. They are aliens and not monsters created by humankind. Perhaps we’ll know more in the third part that has been teased.
An interesting thing to note is that films these days don’t reveal the origins quickly & yet keep the stories engaging. I guess it’s partly because the writers and studios have become wise not to reveal it all together and churn out multiple films or seasons around the premise. They know we’ll keep yearning for more.
Either way, let’s get back to our monsters but keep it hush-hush. They can hear everything. Though we know little about the origins of these monsters, aka aliens, we do know a bit about their traits and characteristics that you might’ve missed while watching the films.
Well, I can’t wait for the next sequel to come to the theatres. I hope the world’s a better place then and everyone can go to theatres. (I think I just made a wish for the people of our world and the people in the film’s world simultaneously.) But I guess I have to wait for another two years now, don’t I? Until next time!
4. About A Quiet Place Part II
A Quiet Place Part II is a 2021 American horror film and the sequel to the 2018 film A Quiet Place, both of which follow a family that is forced to navigate and survive in a post-apocalyptic world inhabited by blind monsters with an acute sense of hearing The sequel was written and directed by John Krasinski under the studio Parmount Pictures.
Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmonds, and Noah Jupe reprise their roles from the first film and are joined by newcomers Cillian Murphy and Djimon Hounsou. Krasinski returns for a brief cameo, seen in a flashback set before the first film.
Following the deadly events at home, the Abbott family must now face the terrors of the outside world as they continue their fight for survival in silence. Forced to venture into the unknown, they quickly realize that the creatures that hunt by sound are not the only threats that lurk beyond the sand path.
