A Non-XT Variant 6GB Radeon RX 6700 is Officially Coming!

A listing for the Radeon RX 6700 with half the VRAM of its XT counterpart was spotted online earlier in February. This included four distinct 6GB variants, along with 12GB versions as well. Even though the listing was a little doubtful then due to the uncertain nature of the EEC (Eurasian Economic Commission), thanks to some leaks, there is now photographic proof that the 6GB variant is a real thing.

Press shots of the PowerColor Radeon RX 6700 Fighter cards have been leaked online which means it wasn’t just a speculative listing. The toned down version of the RT 6700 XT with 6GB of GDDR6 memory will be releasing, along with the 12GB versions, and will likely be built around the same SKU. As these lower-end variants possess the same cooling solution as the XT model, these models will more than likely be dwarfed versions of the 7nm Navi 22 found in the RX 6700 XT.

Given that there is a global shortfall of silicon, lowering the memory capacity for some models seems to be a very smart move. Towards the lower end of the line-up, a lot of the 12GB memory capacity will be likely wasted, especially at reduced resolutions in which AMD’s Infinity Cache is rendered unnecessary. So, the non-XT variant will undercut this memory surplus, and give 1080p gamers some more entry level specs to use. But this is only possible if he manufacturers can keep up with the demand and the scalpers don’t hoard everything for themselves from day one.

No release date is known for these cards, and not even a specific release window. Given that the data we have now also just got released via leaks, there’s a good chance we’ll be waiting a while before we get our hands on these cards. But when they do release, it remains to be seen who gets the most first, the gamers or the cryptocurrency miners. 

AMD and Nvidia cards demand has been split between the gamers and those looking to use them to power their crypto-mining efforts. Infact, this is such a prevalent problem that both Nvidia and AMD are planning on releasing processors dedicated to mining of cryptocurrency. This is in a bid to even out the demand for their GPUs and ensure that they get into the hands of the intended audience – the gamers.
