It’s a good day to be a Cloud Strife stan.
On PlayStation’s State of Play, developers Square Enix announced an all-new PS5 upgrade for 2020’s Final Fantasy VII Remake, the new gen reboot of the classic RPG adventure.
Titled Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, the update will bring improved textures, lighting, atmospheric fog, and a wide array of graphics options to Cloud Strife’s epic adventure. Speaking of graphics, the new update will allow players to choose between two modes – ‘Graphics Mode’ and ‘Performance Mode’. Graphics Mode will enable players to experience the game in all its 4K glory while Performance Mode will take the game up to a squeaky clean 60 FPS.
The upgrade will also add a new Photo Mode, with 24 different filters, for in-game photography geeks along with a PS5-specific feature that will enhance haptic feedback on the Dualsense controller.
Those who own FF7 Remake on PS4 and wish to experience the game on PS5 will get to upgrade and carry on their saves for free. PS5 Digital owners, however, will not be able to upgrade their physical PS4 copies to the digital PS5 edition.
Another significant part of Square Enix’s announcement was the introduction of a new episode featuring Yuffie Kisaragi. In this episode, players will get to “play as ninja Yuffie Kisaragi as she infiltrates the shadowy Shinra Corporation to steal a powerful materia and restore glory to her homeland.”
In Square Enix’s words, “this adventure brings new perspective to the FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE story that cannot be missed.” The episode will launch as a paid DLC – cost of which is presently unknown.
Square Enix also had something in the cannon for fans on Android and iOS. The company announced Final Fantasy 7: The First Soldier, a third-person shooter set 35 years before the events of Cloud’s story, for smartphone play. It is set to arrive sometime in 2021.
They also unveiled Final Fantasy 7 Ever Crisis, a mobile game that will cover the Final Fantasy 7 timeline in its entirety. It seems to be a rebrand of ALL the Final Fantasy adventures, that have been out since the late 1980s, with more competent visuals.
With all the announcements that have come out for the Final Fantasy franchise so far, one thing is certain, for new players as well as old: if you’re looking to dive into the world of Final Fantasy, you couldn’t be more on time.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade will drop exclusively for PS5 on June 10, 2021.
