T0st you da real MVP.
Rockstar Games has announced that in its next update for GTA Online on PC, it will add a fan-made fix to reduce the super lengthy load time of the game. The fix in question is the brainchild of Github user tostercx, who also goes by t0st.
In a blog post here, t0st details how they reduced GTA Online’s loading time by a cool 70%. This translates to a reduction of over 4 minutes, i.e., from 6 minutes to 1 minute 50 seconds. They also warn readers that the fix is an unsupported “proof of concept” and “not for casual use” while adding that it shouldn’t take any Rockstar dev more than a day to solve the load time problem.
While it took a little bit longer than that, Rockstar did confirm to PC Gamer that t0st’s findings were right on the money and that they plan to include the mod in an upcoming update.
“After a thorough investigation, we can confirm that player t0st did, in fact, reveal an aspect of the game code related to load times for the PC version of GTA Online that could be improved,”
Rockstar Games
the company admitted in a statement.
“As a result of these investigations, we have made some changes that will be implemented in a forthcoming title update.”
Rockstar Games
Rockstar neither shared a timeline for when the update will arrive nor did they mention if it will actually cut down loading time by 70%. But it did share that the company has been in touch with t0st and has thanked him for his efforts.
T0st shared that Rockstar has awarded them $10,000 through its Bug Bounty program; an impressive feat as this reward is usually meant for those who discover a security or privacy issue in the company’s online games. But Rockstar seems to have made an exception for what could potentially be a seriously exceptional fix.
