Like any powerful, final boss fight, defeating Stone Monkey in Black Myth: Wukong takes a lot of patience and the right skills in your hand. This long battle is divided into four parts, so you must stay calm and focused.

Use your knowledge of the boss’s attack patterns and weaknesses to launch precise attacks. Leave no stone unturned, and leverage every ability, skill, relic, transformation, and equipment at your disposal for this fight.

Here’s a quick guide on the boss’s attacks throughout the four phases and some combat tips to defeat the boss with relative ease.

Preparing For The Battle

This boss fight occurs at the Heart of Birthstone, where Stone Monkey meditates on a vast ocean shore. To initiate the boss fight, locate and interact with the Birthstone, transporting you to a mystical realm.

A long cutscene plays immediately after this interaction, leading to the boss fight. So whatever preparation you may need should be done before this point.

• Gear up for the ultimate battle by choosing a strong weapon complemented by robust armor, such as the Golden Suozi Armor and Lotus Silk Clothtreaders. Equip a powerful spirit transformation like the Wandering Wight.
• Bolster your abilities with rare or epic curios like the White Seashell Waist Chain to amplify your attacks and Maitreya’s Orb to evade the enemy’s fatal blows by landing enough successful hits.
• Use your best health-replenishing gourd, relics, abilities, and spells. Some strong recommendations are Immobilize, Cloud Step, A Pluck of Many, Fuming Ears, etc.

2. Stone Monkey – Phase 1

The fight opens with the stone monkey soaring into the air and slamming his fists down, so be prepared to dodge in time. He does not have a weapon in this state, so he will swing his arms around, slam his fists, and stomp his feet to attack you.

• Avoid his grab attacks if possible (if you want to keep your bones intact), as he will hulk-smash you around like his personal plaything (and trust me, it looks very brutal).
• Watch for orange-glowing arms, signaling a shockwave-inducing leap attack – create distance to avoid the AoE. Seize brief windows after his attacks to strike back.
• Be cautious when he crumbles into stone and reappears; keep running to avoid his following stomp attack.
• Utilize the Immobilize spell to deal significant damage during his vulnerable moments.

3. Stone Monkey – Phase 2

When the first health bar is depleted, the Stone Monkey becomes a fire-and-ice-wielding foe. He will begin by creating shockwaves of fire, so avoid these by dodging at the correct time. Be prepared to do this for many of his attacks during this phase.

• He retains previous attacks with added elemental damage. Watch for icy fist slams and dodge away, counterattacking after his combo’s finish.
• He roars as he sends a shockwave and crumbles into stone again, only for the shockwave to return to the same position where he disappeared as he reappears. Dodge in time to avoid getting hit.
• At half health, a clone appears; defeat it and prepare for intensified fire and ice combos.
• Prioritize dodging deadly attacks, using transformations and skills as needed. Patience and timing are the keys to landing successful hits and securing victory.

4. The Great Sage’s Broken Shell – Phase 1

The battle hasn’t ended yet, as the Stone Monkey finally takes his true form as the Great Sage’s Broken Shell. He now looks the same as our protagonist, Wukong, complete with the armor and weapon but with amplified strength and size.

• The battle commences immediately, with the boss hurling his staff like a boomerang – roll back to evade the attack when the cutscene ends.
• His moveset echoes Wukong’s but with intensified ferocity and fluidity, incorporating staff slams and pole-vaulting strikes. Seize brief windows to counterattack after his assaults.
• Beware of the ring of fire he conjures around himself – wait for him to exit the circle and initiate an attack rather than risk a trap.

5. The Great Sage’s Broken Shell – Phase 2

The final phase begins after a thrilling cutscene, marked by the boss’s glowing gold eyes.

• His attacks intensify, combining multiple combos with increased aggression. Unleash all your skills, transformations, and abilities, but balance offense with defense. Dodge, then counter during recovery periods.
• Beware of his ariel assault, where he’ll swoop in on a cloud, fling you into the air, and slam you down with his staff – dodge or flee to avoid the animation.
• He unleashes an unavoidable combo at half health, so monitor your vitality closely.
• One of his attacks includes transforming his staff into a long pole, from where he throws multiple mini glowing staffs at the player. Dodge each one precisely and be ready to dodge again when he comes slamming down.
• When he holds the staff behind him and it glows red, get ready to dodge a powerful beam attack. Muster all of your patience, might, timing, and skill to bring down his health and defeat him once and for all.

This long challenge is finally overcome, and the boss is ultimately defeated. Now, the curtain closes on an epic adventure as one last dramatic cutscene plays out, bringing this incredible journey – and the game itself – to its conclusion.
