‘Falcon and Winter Soldier’ Cut Storyline Could Be Adapted as a Comic

A rumored storyline cut from The Falcon and The Winter Soldier may be getting a comic adaptation soon. The series, which premiered in March, came to an end last week with the season finale.

However, since the story concluded, leaving many loose ends, fans have been hoping for more content to arise in the future.

Now, Malcolm Spellman, the showrunner of the series, has shed some light on what might lie ahead, and it does sound interesting.

In his recent interview on the Fade To Black podcast [SM1] Spellman was asked about the rumored cut storyline that saw the Flag Smashers unleashing a deadly virus upon the world bringing similar connotations to the current COVID pandemic situation. In answer to the question, Spellman noted:

“I’ve been told to stop saying that. I loved it, and it had nothing to do with the pandemic… I want to see if we can get some of the writers to do a book run on it because I think Kevin [Feige] does it. I’ve been told to stop talking about it.”

As president of Marvel Entertainment, Feige has full authority over calling all the shots, giving him plenty of say over all Marvel Cinematic Universe projects from movies and TV series to comics.

Although the showrunner did not reveal which specific storyline he was talking about, he previously admitted he and director Kari Skogland had developed a much larger plotline for Joaquin Torres. But given the six-episode limit, most of it had to be cut out.

The series picked up after the events of 2019’s Avengers: Endgame and followed the lives of Sam and Bucky as both try to come into their own.

While Falcon tries to struggle with Steve’s legacy as Captain America and the possibility of him ascending to the title, Bucky has to deal with his past as the Winter Soldier.

The series was only the second in Marvel’s current Phase Four slate of 2021 after WandaVision. Other upcoming series include Loki, What If…?, Ms. Marvel, Hawkeye, Moon Knight, She-Hulk, Secret Invasion, Ironheart, Armor Wars, and an untitled series based on Wakanda.

The Falcon and The Winter Soldier stars Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Daniel Bruhl, Wyatt Russell, Emily VanCamp, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Noah Mills, and Carl Lumbly. It is now available for streaming on Disney+.
