Episode 9 of 86 Eighty-Six Part 2, titled “Together Unto Death,” is the latest installment of the anime.
This episode was quite somber. It did have some light-hearted moments, like when the rest of the members were eavesdropping on Raiden and Shin’s conversation, but most of the time was filled with Shin’s overwhelming trauma.
The fight between Shin and Kiri is going to happen within the next few episodes, as they’re inching closer to each other. Will Shin and his team make it out alive? What will happen when Kiri finds out that Frederica is still alive? Keep watching to find out.
Episode 10 Speculation
In the last episode, Shin and the others are still tracing Kiri’s steps and are inching closer to him. Kiri has also received a warning from his superiors that he’s being tracked and must end the enemy no matter the consequence.
Grethe and the rest of the squad have geared up and are making their way towards the Legion territory. Their goal is to support Shin in his mission. In the next episode, the much-awaited Shin vs. Kiri battle will take place.

Episode 9 Recap
Shin and the rest of the 86 continue pursuing Kiri, who is in control of the Morpho. Frederica is also traveling with them after she was discovered hiding in Fido.
The Federacy and its allies have begun attacking the Legion to distract them from Shin’s mission. Grethe and the rest of the Nordlicht have restocked their ammunition and are ready to help Shin.
Back in the Legion territory, Raiden confronts Shin, calling out his strange behavior. He reminds him that Shin is still a part of the team, and his rash actions are putting the rest of their lives in danger.
Shin isn’t affected by Raiden’s scolding as he tells him that he’s already dead. He says he’s merely a weapon and was supposed to die way earlier. It seems like Shin has normalized his trauma and doesn’t plan to take part in the battle with the intention of making it out alive.
Raiden shakes him up, reminding him that people still cared about him and that he should stop putting himself in danger. Shin still doesn’t accept this and continues rambling on how he is the reaper and only kills the people near and dear to him.
Tired, Raiden finally tells Shin that the team wants him to be happy and alive, but in the end, it was his path to choose. When Shin says that he will pursue the Morpho alone, Raiden declines this and simply tells him that the team will accompany him where ever he goes.
The team then continues their journey, and Frederica asks them all if they’ve been to the ocean. To no one’s surprise, it turns out that none of them had ever seen the ocean. She says that she, too, hasn’t seen it.
They all then promise Frederica that once the war is over, they’ll go to the ocean to swim in its blue water and play in the white sand of the beach.
Later that night, Frederica visits Shin and confides in him, sharing her fears. She tells him that she is very much like him since she’s afraid of losing her sense of purpose.
Frederica feels as if she doesn’t have any reason to live because the Federacy is now a Republic, and her existence could be a threat to many.
She also fears losing Kiri, her knight, because he is the only reason she thinks she has a purpose. Frederica tells Shin that she believes she must put Kiri to peace and free him of all his struggles.
Shin, in turn, tells her that after his near-death experience with Shourei, he has failed to feel any emotion, attachment, or purpose in life. He feels as if he’s become the shell of the person he used to be.
Elsewhere, Kiriya receives a message from No-Face, who warns him that the enemy is tracking him and he must kill them no matter what.

86 is a Japanese science fiction light novel series, written by Asato Asato and illustrated by Shirabi, with mechanical design by I-IV.
86 follows the story of a 16-year-old girl, Vladilena Milizé, better known as Lena. Lena serves as a major in the Republic of San Magnolia’s army and a handler for the ‘Processors’ of the Republic’s ‘unmanned drones’ known as Juggernauts.
Their goal is to use these drones to defend against Legion drones developed by the Giadian Empire, which started a war with them a while back. However, there is also a dark secret which the Republic holds.
