We’ve received new info from various reputable sources detailing some of the specifics of Sony’s planned next-gen VR headset for the PS5, along with 4K resolution and rumble haptic feedback.
The product’s name is still unknown, but UploadVR seems to be pretty confident that we can accept this info with a reasonable level of certainty. Sony had revealed the controllers for their new upcoming VR platform for the PS5 and is planned to release sometime in 2022.
So far, we know that the controllers will retain the analog stick with finger position sensing, along with the resistive adaptive triggers from the DualSense controllers. This means that we can expect the same level of haptic feedback from the current PS5 controllers, which have received widespread great praise.
The latest info which has surfaced shows we can expect some very good things from PS5 VR. The major points so far are:
- A resolution of 2000×2040 per eye, 4000×2040 pixels together, approximating to around 8.16 million pixels in total.
- A lens separation adjustment dial.
- Eye-tracking capable of foveated rendering, which reduces rendering workload by lowering image quality around one’s peripheral vision while keeping the central vision image sharper
- Direct haptic feedback delivered via a motor in the headset.
- Simplified setup and more freedom of movement thanks to the use of onboard cameras to track the position of the controllers.
