Real Time with Bill Maher is coming back to screens early next year. The show had been renewed by HBO for two more seasons in September. The cable network has now revealed the premiere date for the 19th season, along with a preview and a poster. Maher will be back in the new season with his combative wit and straightforward rebuttals.
Bill Maher has been offering his views on American politics since the early 1990s. Previous to Real Time, he headlined a talk show on Comedy Central called Politically Incorrect. Politically Incorrect debuted in 1993 and ran till 2002 when it was canceled because of Maher’s insensitive comments on the 9/11 terror attacks.
After apologizing for his statements, Maher debuted with his new show, Real Time, in 2003. Unlike most talk shows, the guests on the panel are not interviewed by the host. Instead, Maher and his guests engage in heated political debates.
While most of last season was filmed in Maher’s home, the crew returned to the studios in August. The new season will also be filmed in the usual studio while maintaining social distancing norms.
In the last episode of the 18th season, Maher discussed the consequences of the presidential election held in November and how the Trump supporters had refused to accept Biden’s win. The 19th season will premiere before the swearing-in ceremony of the new president.
Real Time with Bill Maher returns on January 15th, 2021.
