Frieren, Zom 100 and More Nominated for 69th Shogakukan Manga Awards

Summary:

  • The judging committee of the 69th Shogakukan Manga Awards revealed the nominees for this year.
  • This year’s awards will not include categories like previous years.
  • Twelve works, including Frieren and Zom 100, were revealed.

The Shogakukan Manga Award was founded in 1956, and it is one of the most prestigious awards in the community. The awards are handed out at the beginning of the year, along with a cash prize.

The time has come again, and the judging committee has revealed twelve-year nominees, including popular manga like Frieren and Zom 100.

The judging committee of the 69th Shogakukan Manga Awards revealed the nominees for this year. Each winning title will be honored with a bronze statuette and a prize of 1 million yen (about US $6,900). The winners will be announced on January 18.

Formerly, the awards were divided into multiple categories. They were divided into the following categories: Best Children’s Manga, Best Shōnen Manga, Best Shōjo Manga, and Best General Manga.

However, for the first time this year, there will be no categories. According to the President and Representative Director of Shogakukan, making genre-based decisions was always tricky. To counter this problem, they have decided to remove the category system.

Nevertheless, the nominees still feature a variety of works from a wide range of genres.

The nominees are:
