Dandadan, the latest sensation in shonen anime, has taken the anime community by storm. With its explosive blend of supernatural- occult action, the undertones of a romantic comedy, weird characters, and its absolutely ridiculous plotlines- this series is a breath of fresh air.
However, when we remember Dandadan, the characters steal our attention each time they are on screen. Here are the 10 best characters in the Dandadan manga.
10 Kinta Sakata
Kinta Sakata, initially seen as a liability and a pervert, surprises everyone with his heroic transformation.
Despite his vain and attention-seeking personality, Kinta’s drive to become a hero and his ‘nanoskin’ manipulation powers earn him respect. His desire for genuine relationships and friendship makes him a relatable and unexpectedly beloved character.
9 Bamora
An alien child fleeing from the Kur, and reaching Earth for safety, Bamora’s earnest bond with the protagonists makes her an endearing character.
She has a tragic backstory of being the last survivor of her planet, but her eventual integration into the group offers a sense of hope. Bamora’s innocence and strength make her a loved character by fans.
8 Count Saint-Germain
Count Saint-Germain is a late and recent addition to the roster of important characters in the series. He has already enthralled fans with his mysterious nature.
As a collector of peculiar and strange (occult-style) things, this alien antagonist boasts eccentric powers and unpredictable motives. Despite his role as a villain, his charismatic personality and intriguing goals make him a fascinating character. He can be seen as the Loki of Dandadan.
7 Unji Zuma
Unji Zuma has a tragic backstory, and the transition from a sideline character to a hero in the Danmanra arc has won him many fans.
Despite his seemingly delinquent persona, Zuma has a heart of gold. Since he was young, he has been using his notoriety to help outcasts in need. His emotional journey and eventual transformation into a selfless hero is he most heart touching scene in the manga.
6 Turbo Granny
The terrifying yokai Turbo granny had our heroes running. But it cannot be denied that her impact on the series is massive. From the comic relief of her stealing Okarun’s family jewels to allowing him to use the Turbo transformation n to save his friends, Granny greatly changes.
She starts as a formidable enemy but quickly becomes a beloved character after being sealed inside a maneki-neko doll. Her foul-mouthed banter and unpredictable antics make her one of the funniest parts of the series, yet some moments showcase her incredible depth as a ghost and a soul.
5 Jiji
Jiji, Momo’s childhood friend and first crush, is one of the craziest characters in Dandadan. But Jiji’s goofy and happy-go-lucky personality won the hearts of fans in a heartbeat.
All the strange, seemingly sad moments in the series, his unshakable optimism, and his sunny personality make it all better. Jiji’s friendship with Okarun and Momo adds depth to his character.
4 Aira Shiratori
Initially introduced as a love rival to Momo, Aira quickly evolves to go beyond her superficial role. Her arrogance and unreciprocated crush on Okarun give the readers a lot of humorous moments in the series.
Over time, Aira becomes a true friend to Momo and Okarun, with her character development being one of the best in the series and growing from a flawed, selfish person to a caring teammate.
3 Seiko Ayase
Momo’s grandmother, Seiko, is an unorthodox mentor who provides guidance and comic relief. She is one of the strongest beings in the series and a foul-mouthed, carefree spirit medium.
Seiko is essential to the team; they always ask her for advice. She may not always be present in critical moments, but her youthful attitude, endless spirit expertise make her an irreplaceable part of the crew. Not to mention, she is 70 and looks 17.
2 Okarun
Ken Takakura, known as Okarun, is the lovable and awkward hero of Dandadan. His showing his evolution from a shy, introverted teen to a determined fighter willing to protect his loved ones is one of the most touching parts of the series.
Okarun’s character growth and relationship with Momo form the emotional core of Dandadan, making him one of the most adored characters.
1 Momo Ayase
Momo Ayase is the best character in Dandadan, hands down. Momo is not just central to the entire story of Dandadan; she is one of the most well-written female leads in modern-day Shonen.
The vibrant and fiery personality that pushes her towards helping people added to her supernatural abilities, makes her the core of the Occult team. As Momo encounters stronger and stranger opponents, she struggles and moves forward, growing with each passing chapter.
