Use Ashes of War to Enhance your Weapons in Elden Ring – Unique Abilities & Effects

Ashes of War are special items in the Elden Ring that can be used to upgrade different gears and weapons. Like any other upgrade item, these can be found scattered all around the world of The Lands Between.

Each Ashes of War has some unique effects and can unlock new abilities/moves in the weapons you use them on. Additionally, these abilities can be further scaled up to make your weapon the ultimate monster slayer.

Use L2/LT on the console or Shift + Right-Click on the keyboard and mouse to activate the special Ashes of War abilities. Ensure that you have equipped a weapon that has an activated Ashes of War on it.

As different Ashes of War unlock different abilities, you must explore the game world and find the one that suits you the best. This item further unlocks a specific skill tree for that particular weapon which can be scaled up to make the ability stronger.

How to unlock Ashes of War in Elden Ring?

Ashes of War can be unlocked by using the Whetstone Knife, which can be found in the Gatefront ruins of the Limgrave region. Using it will unlock the Ashes of War menu, which can be accessed at any Site of Grace.

The item effect description of Whetstone Knife reads “Can add new battle arts and affinities to weapons (Skills).” These arts and affinities are nothing else than Ashes of War abilities.

Elden Ring is the next major title to be released by FromSoftware, the developers of Demon’s Souls, Bloodborne and the Dark Souls franchise. Elden Ring is set to release on the February 25th, 2022.

The game is set in a world known as The Lands Between. Players will take control of a Tarnished to explore these lands and uncover the secrets it holds. The game is an open-world style title with emphasis on combat and traversal.
