The Scadutree Avatar is a ‘Legend’ boss in Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. It is the guardian of the Scadutree and the holder of Miquella’s Great Rune. Although optional, you really have to toil to defeat this boss, thanks to its difficulty level. Remember, it’s completely normal if it takes you multiple turns, speaking from experience, of course!
Location
The Scadutree Avatar can be found in the northeast area of the Shadow Keep. At the Scadutree Base, you will face off the Scadutree Avatar to the east of the Albinauric’s Shack.
The closest waypoint is the Scadutree Base Site of Grace.
How to defeat the Scadutree Avatar?
Phase 1
As soon as the Scadutree Avatar spots you, it will hit its arms on the ground which will send spiked branches at you. This attack covers a lot of ground but it is easy to dodge. Simply dodge-roll to avoid getting hurt.
If you are within close proximity of the Scadutree Avatar, it will try to crush you by slamming its head. This too can be avoided by dodging and moving away as you see its head coming down. Do the same if the boss flails its arms around.
Phase 2
In the second phase of the fight, the Scadutree Avatar will crouch and incandescent pools of water will appear on the ground. This is an indication that vines will come up. Remember where each and every vine is and stay away from these spots while the attack lasts.
The boss will then send beams of light at you. Hold back until the beams are just about to hit you then dodge-roll to either side.
Phase 3
In the final stage of the battle, the Scadutree Avatar will perform such a deadly attack that it will take over the entire arena. This is where you really have to nail your timing. Once the attack unfolds, wait until the right moment to dodge-roll or else, you will end up in flames.
Don’t think that the fight is over just because the Scadutree Avatar’s health is zero. Once that happens, its head will be vulnerable to attacks. Make sure to hit a fatal blow or you will have to begin again. Back to square one!
